Michaelo Espresso equipment installed at the high end, for higher education and on the high seas
Seattle, WA. -- Michaelo Espresso, Seattle-based importer commercial espresso equipment, has completed three major installations of La San Marco and Cafina beverage systems in high profile, high volume locations.

Closest to home, and through an ongoing equipment support with the University of Washington, Michaelo has supplied a Cafina c5 12L superautomatic espresso machine to the Vista Café of the newly open-ended William H. Foege Building. The Cafina espresso machine was specially selected for it’s high volume ease of operation and will serve specialty coffee menu options in the café. The new 265,000 square foot building is located on the Seattle campus of the university and will host student and faculty of Departments of Genome Sciences and Bioengineering.

Just a few miles away at the heart of downtown Seattle are more Michaelo Espresso imports. Michaelo has completed installation of two La San Marco espresso machines in Hotel 1000, a luxury boutique hotel and high-end residence located at First and Madison. The machines, two sleek, chrome-finished 85E models, will provide espresso in the traditional style, one in the hotel restaurant and one in the Fireplace Lounge that will feature a cozy atmosphere for savoring fine wines and premium coffee.

Michaelo Espresso is also proud to send its quality equipment far and wide with the distinguished honor of placing three espresso systems on the world’s largest cruise liner. Two La San Marco Preziosas, traditional espresso machines with old-world styling, and one 85E model were busy brewing up espresso on the maiden voyage of Royal Caribbean’s, The Freedom of the Seas this spring. Royal Caribbean has a proven record with Michaelo equipment that serves quality coffee on several other cruise ships currently sailing.

Michaelo Espresso has served the specialty coffee industry with only the finest espresso machines and grinders, custom-built espresso carts and kiosks, and nationwide service since 1983, with more than 6,500 customers in the U.S., Canada, Korea, China, Taiwan, England and Mexico.

Michaelo Espresso Teams with BEST on Espresso Machine Training Program
Seattle, WA. -- Michaelo Espresso, Seattle-based importer of La San Marco and Cafina espresso machines, has completed a major contribution to the B.E.S.T Certification Program by delivering a superautomatic espresso machine technical training guide.

The Beverage Equipment Service Technician, of America Training Certification Program, or BEST, is the first of its kind in the U.S. and was designed to prepare participants for employment and/or certification in the specialty beverage industry. Sponsored by El Camino College in Long Beach, California and Specialty Coffee Association of America, BEST is currently developing an espresso machine training program to compliment their already established brewing equipment course. Michaelo Espresso has high hopes for the BEST Program to provide the industry with a dependable level of technician training that will promote higher standards in the service community.

Michaelo joined the BEST curriculum steering committee in February of 2004 and pledged to contribute the superautomatic espresso machine portion of the training program which focuses on teaching general maintenance and repair as well as advanced diagnosis and troubleshooting. The content addition by Michaelo is one of the largest of the nearly 20 specialty coffee companies to participate in the BEST steering committee. Michaelo President, Michael Myers attends the planning meetings and feels strongly about supporting BEST. "Everything we do to help educate and improve the level of training of espresso technicians will come back to us by improving the (specialty coffee) industry." In their twenty-one years of selling and supporting espresso machines, Michaelo has developed a comprehensive training program of their own to enhance the abilities of technicians who work in their large national network.

Paul Flynn, Michaelo Espresso's lead superautomatic technician, is working on the curriculum material, which is derived from years of service in the field and thousands of hours of technical research and development of their Swiss superautomatic, the Cafina c60. Flynn, who has trained hundreds of service technicians across the U.S., feels Michaelo Espresso's contribution to the BEST program is a natural extension of the company's existing training program and an excellent use of their in-house technical resources.

Michaelo Espresso will continue to work with BEST through the completion of the espresso equipment curriculum, which should be available to students in a traditional classroom format or online early in 2005.

Michaelo Espresso Installs Space Needle Coffee Bar
Seattle, WA - Michaelo Espresso, Inc. completed on time delivery and installation of a modular coffee bar for The Space Base Coffee Bar. The unit was custom designed to fit the very unique floor plan of the circular Space Needle reception area. The five-piece modular system included:
  • Merchandising unit featuring coffee beans and Space Needle gift foods
  • 48-inch Refcon deli and soft drink display
  • Point of sale module
  • 5-foot espresso bar
  • Back bar storage unit designed to integrate existing retail fixtures and support a menu board

The entire unit was engineered for self-contained water, drain and electrical and was planned to accommodate the Space Needle’s structure and operation.

Michaelo Espresso was chosen to produce the cart system for the Space Needle reception area and gift shop based on completed projects for other prominent accounts in the Seattle area. The cart system was fabricated by Michaelo and designed to the specifications of Seattle architectural firm Architecturra, managed by Doug Pratt, Michaelo National Sales Manager, and facilitated by Tammy Fuhr, Michaelo Design and Marketing Manager.

Completed in late April of 2003, the entire unit was delivered and installed in 3.5 hours to minimize the interruption to the very busy Space Needle reception and gift shop. “The coffee bar provides coffee, of course, but it also enhances the architectural appeal of the lobby,” says Pratt, the project’s manager. Space Needle visitors can enjoy coffee and snacks from the Michaelo made bar while browsing in the gift shop or waiting in line for their turn on the famous 41-second elevator ride to the 520 feet high observation deck.

Michaelo Espresso provides conventional equipment to nationally recognized Starbucks Foodservice accounts
Seattle, WA—Michaelo Espresso, Inc., one of the longest standing, most respected full-service espresso equipment companies in the specialty coffee industry, has entered into an agreement with Starbucks Coffee Company to provide conventional equipment to Starbucks Foodservice accounts.

In November of 2002, Michaelo Espresso launched a program to provide their Italian-crafted, La San Marco espresso equipment to Starbucks customers nationwide, with machines currently serving accounts in California, Colorado, Florida, Texas, and Washington State. Plans for the program include installation and support of additional machines distributed throughout the U.S.

The equipment provision agreement by Michaelo includes installation, service and support, as well as full warranty coverage. “Starbucks was looking to offer a comprehensive program with national reach,” says Michaelo General Manager, Russ Myers, “and we already have the mechanism in place that supports our customers nationally.” Michaelo Espresso was one of the first espresso equipment companies to offer nationwide product support by developing a service network comprised of hundreds of qualified service agents, managed by a unique database that tracks and reports on customer accounts in all 50 states. Myers also points out that the company’s broad national reach isn’t the only benefit of using Michaelo Espresso, “Of course we offer top quality espresso gear, which is really what makes the program complete.”

Michaelo Espresso offers La San Marco equipment because of its proven dependability and many customer driven innovations like ergonomically friendly toggle steam-valves, heat-tolerant nickel-plated boilers, and easily programmable beverage settings. Another La San Marco attribute useful to Starbucks customers is the flexible portafilter system, that can be used to brew espresso with traditional ground coffee, or, by adding a smaller adapter, Starbucks pre-ground espresso pods.

Michaelo Espresso has served the specialty coffee industry with only the finest espresso machines and grinders, custom-built espresso carts and kiosks, nationwide service and supplies since 1983, with more than 6,500 customers in the U.S., Canada, Korea, China, Taiwan, England and Mexico.

Seattle-based Michaelo Espresso Celebrates 20 years in Specialty Coffee Business
Seattle, WA -- Michaelo Espresso, one of the longest standing and most reliable espresso equipment companies, celebrates its 20th year serving the specialty coffee industry.

On July 4th, 1983, Michael Myers, a restaurant equipment purveyor turned espresso lover, started Michaelo Espresso, importing, selling, and servicing a line of Italian-made espresso machines in the greater Seattle area. Within 10 years of starting his dream venture, Myers and his growing company had established a nation wide network of sales and customer service, with machines and trained service agents in all 50 states

In 20 years of business, Michaelo Espresso has been a leader in espresso equipment throughout the development of the specialty coffee industry, which was virtually anonymous in the early 1980s, experienced a great boom in the 1990s, and has matured into a stable industry in the 2000s. Throughout the changes in the market, Myers’ company has survived and thrived due to its singular commitment to customer service. “I decided long ago that I needed to represent manufactures that could offer us exactly what we needed to stand behind their products,” Myers explains. As part of this commitment to dependability, Michaelo Espresso was the first espresso equipment company to develop a comprehensive customer support program that included a national service database to track and manage accounts, a fully stocked parts warehouse with next day availability, and a 24-hour call center accessible through a toll-free number for clients anywhere in the U.S.

Today, Michaelo Espresso serves the specialty coffee industry with a full range of espresso equipment including top-quality espresso machines and grinders, NSF-certified coffee carts and kiosks, panini grills, water filtration, plus parts and accessories with more than 6,500 accounts that include national cafes, bookstores, food service chains and independently owned operations in the U.S., Canada, Korea, China, Taiwan, England and Mexico.

Michaelo Espresso to Install Cafina Superautomatic

Espresso Machines at University of Washington

Seattle, WA—Michaelo Espresso, one of the longest standing, most respected full-service espresso equipment companies in the specialty coffee industry, has been contracted by the University of Washington to begin replacing all existing campus espresso machines with Cafina c60 superautomatic espresso machines on campus over the next five years. The University of Washington currently operates 20 espresso machines in 19 locations and that number is expected to grow.

The University of Washington tested several of the world’s best superautomatic espresso machines and named Michaelo’s Cafina c60 its machine of choice. “We selected Michaelo Espresso and the Cafina c60 primarily because the machine makes an excellent espresso,” says Dan Farrell, assistant director of retail foodservices at the University of Washington. “Along with being offered at what we feel is a reasonable price, the machine provides the most information regarding espresso brewing and maintenance. The machine’s speed and ease-of-use is ideal for the busy outlets on our campus.”

The trend toward superautomatic espresso machines is clear in restaurants, hotels, grocery stores, hospitals, airports and stadiums where employee training is minimal and time is of the essence. Purchasing Cafina c60 superautomatic machines (which grind and brew the coffee at the push of a button—milk is steamed manually) will enable vendors at UW to serve hundreds of quality espresso beverages per hour.

Michaelo Espresso has served the specialty coffee industry with top-quality custom-built espresso carts, kiosks and drive-thrus, espresso machines and grinders, nationwide service and supplies since 1983, with more than 6,500 customers in the U.S., Canada, Korea, China, Taiwan, England and Mexico.

Michaelo Espresso Launches Superautomatic Espresso Machine
Michaelo Espresso of Seattle gained US importing rights to the Cafina c60 superautomatic espresso machine. According to President Michael Myers, this move gives the company “a machine for espresso’s next big boom.”

Superautomatic espresso machines will drive espresso’s next boom by opening up new markets,” Myers said. “Restaurants, hotels, grocery chains and other places where training has been an obstacle won’t believe how easy Cafina is to use. And the espresso quality is superb.”

Michaelo Espresso test-marketed the machine for one year before offering it for sale. Now that the Cafina is available to its customers, Michaelo will provide 24-hour, coast-to-coast service and support for every superautomatic it sells.

The Cafina c60 features a self-adjusting coffee grinder and sophisticated coffee monitoring software that makes espresso taste consistently high quality. Capable of producing 268 cups per hour, it can handle traffic at busy espresso bars. But it is the perfect machine in setting where training people to make espresso is difficult. In addition, Cafina’s compact size saves valuable counter space while its efficient operating system saves water, power and coffee. That adds up to more profit.

Established in 1983, Cafina has been producing superautomatics since 1974 and has sold over 10,000 worldwide. The Cafina c60 is ETL and CSA listed in U.S. and Canadian markets.

Founded in Seattle in 1983, Michaelo Espresso, Inc. leads the new wave of espresso with a range of products that make espresso better in a variety of venues. It manufactures custom carts and kiosks and is the largest US importer of Cafina and La San Marco espresso machines. Michaelo also provides grinders, water purification systems and panini sandwich grills.
